Keeping yourself occupied during retirement

howkeepoccupiedSome people will have a clear idea on how they wish to spend the large amount of additional leisure time they will have on retirement. Others will be daunted by the prospect and fear they will not have enough to do to occupy their days, especially those who have had little time, during their working lives, to devote to leisure activities.

I came to the conclusion that, in order to have a fulfilling retirement, it was desirable to do three things:
1.    To keep fit in mind and body.
2.    To pursue activities that you enjoy.
3.    To manage your financial affairs properly.

As far as the second of these is concerned, you need to be honest with yourself about what you really enjoy as opposed to what you may have got into the habit of doing or what may be expected of you. Ideally, at the end of each day, you should be able to say that the day has been enjoyable and worthwhile.

With the objectives mentioned above in mind, I suggest you list the things you enjoy doing or want to do and then divide them into the following three categories:
1.    Physical activities.
2.    Cerebral or cultural activities.
3.    Other activities or projects.

Each of these will be the subject of further blogs, either in the Retirement section or elsewhere.
